Muay Thai Classes

We offer Muay Thai Kickboxing classes for kids ages 8 and up. Muay Thai Kickboxing is a striking martial art from Thailand, and is known as the science of the 8 limbs because it involves striking with knees and elbows as well as hands (punches) and feet (kicks). Because you learn to strike with every part of your body (except with your head), Muay Thai is considered one of the most effective striking arts and is great for self defense. This class is all stand- up (no wrestling on the ground) and is very active. The benefits that come from learning and training Muay Thai Kickboxing go beyond self defense and fitness, but include discipline, respect, flexibility, coordination, and self awareness and self confidence to name a few. And it's FUN for the kids. This class uses a lot of pad work (Thai pads and focus mitts), heavy bag work, kick shields, partner drills, agility ladders, sparring, and more. If you are looking for all around martial arts training for your child, this class is a great compliment to our Jiu Jitsu program (which is all grappling on the ground). If you're looking for a real world martial art that does not involve wrestling on the ground, this is a great class to try. This class is no different than the other programs we offer at Blue Dragon Martial arts, where we strive to teach the kids to become true martial artists, to use their martial arts training only for competition and self-defense, and learn to be kind and humble warriors. Pad Work

Padwork

Pad work is a big part of the Muay Thai program. The kids practice there technique and drill often using Thai pads, focus mitts, kick shields, and heavy bags. The kids work with a partner and take turns holding pads for each other. This helps build a high level of cooperation and team bonding.

Sparring

Sparring

Sparring is a great way for the kids to practice their techniques in a more live situation. Full sparring is always optional, and the kids must stay controlled with there strikes, and never spar emotionally or beyond 70% of their power and speed. Our goal in sparring is to help each other become better. It's not a competition to see who can beat who. We leave that for the competitions.

Coordination

We incorporate many drills and warm-ups to help the kids improve their speed, coordination, and agility, such as jumping rope, agility ladder drills, ball-on-string work, etc.
